Architecture and politics

Watching a video from the French Senate today. Yes it's difficult to follow and I don't know all the protocols. Something struck me, in the Senate, the Senators (is that the right word?) sit in a semi circle(as they do in the E.P. ). At Westminster they sit on opposing benches (not that the Labour Party has been doing much opposing recently). To what extent architecture influence politics?
