En Passant - day 12 - The Poster Pin-up of the Pyrenees

If they made and boxed chocolates in the Pyrenees this place (albeit perhaps a more summery photo)  would be on the cover of each and every one. Gavarnie.  A - with a drop of 1500m+ from top to bottom and a span of 3km at the top. It is ringed by 17 3,000m peaks and has (receding) glaciers at both ends- and to top it all - the longest waterfall in Europe (425m).  Deservedly a UNESCO World Heritage Site and worth the walk up in the snow.

My boots fell to pieces on this walk. I didn't notice till I got to the bottom.  Three days above the snow line this week have taken their toll - but I have had them many, many, years
