Ex-pat files

There is a brilliant article on what it means to be an expat - and indeed whether one should use the term at all- plus some very pereceptive comments. Don't think I can add to that really.

Hi, Nick, and thanks for the link, it's an interesting article. It seems to me that we have no option to become Dutch, though - we can learn the language, assimilate the culture, contribute to the economy, yet we will still and forever be 'british' or 'american' to our hosts. Their perception of us is as expatriates, so why not give in to the term if our heart is otherwise pure in leaving our roots (somewhat) behind?
