A wunch of bankers 2

Does anyone listen to those financial reports about the kind of day that the pound / dollar / euro had? Have you ever noticed how they anthropomorphise money - give it human characteristics - when really all they are talking about is a medium of exchange.

You know the kind of thing "the pound started off jittery this morning but after a fresh orange juice and a strong coffee regained some lost ground and continued to improve as one of the secretaries flirted with it at lunchtime. By mid afternoon it was trading high fives by the photocopying machine with the yen." Perhaps this weeks news should be about the dollar having a bad case of SAD this week as it realised that it had been living beyond its means for many years and hiding this from itself and all its trading partners who suddenly went into a frenzy of panic.

Agreed! - It's hard not to listen recently as the reports are jammed down your throat 24/7. I used to thrive on this kind of stuff and sign up for rss feeds and email alerts having spent 13 years as part of that wunch of bankers. It's only when you step away that you realize how trivial and in fact irritating it all is. The market is up, down, static, volatile, day in, day out. Asia is up, Europe is down, US is ......yawn zzzzZZZZZ! Time to switch to the Nature Channel. At least its about real life!

Hi Nick,
got your calendar and your note today, thanks for that. Good to hear from you! So I've been reading your blog. When were you in Rome?
What about the expats in Britain? You may laugh, but Christmas and Weihnachten do have some subtle or not so subtle differences.
Life is good here, although funding for my job will run out in March, but strangely enough, it doesn't make me panic! Spent Christmas here with Andy and his parents and New Year on Swiftshill (local nature reserve) around a bonfire with Andy and Dan, Andy's son now 9 years old and some friends.
Wondering how much I can write in a comment..., but space doesn't seem to run out.
I'm aiming to put some pictures of last year on a picture website (flooded car club cars etc I hasten to add), so will send you the link once I've managed to do that.
all the best for now,
Nadine
