Khymer temples: day 2 part 1

It's difficult to find words to describe Angkor Wat. I've seen the Golden Temple in Amritsar, The Red Fort in Delhi, Carcassonne, the Alhambra and the Grand Square in Brussels (probably the five architectural wonders of the world that I will never forget). You could put these all into a corner of Angkor Wat!

The moat surrounding the compound is 190 metres wide! It was dug out by hand (with help of a few elephants!) when Europe was still in the dark ages (circa 1000AD). The scale and grandeur of this place defies description. Lonely Planet (and they know a bit about travel) throw quite a few superlatives around: 'Angkor Wat is one of the most inspired and spectacular monuments ever conceived by the human mind.. a stunning blend of symmetry and spirituality and an enduring example of man's devotion to his gods... It is matched by only a few select spots on earth, such as Machu Pichu and Petra'. I probably only caught a fraction of it. Yet there's always some human interest. The pre-Raphaelite beauty said she was from South Korea. I think she would have qualified to be a one of the 7000+ temple dancers when this temple was in full swing!
